Our our way to Melbourne, we stopped in Jervis Bay where the beaches are beautiful. The sand is supposedly the whiter in Australia, probably true… We even had a swim there, obviously the water wasn’t quite as warm as in Thailand.
We started getting used to our van: the change of gears (which was a bit difficult at the beginning), the organisation of things inside the van.
It took us 4 days to get to Melbourne but we did it at a slow pace. When we got there we were warmly welcomed by Agnes and Hiroshi, a lovely couple that we had met on the cruise in Halong Bay. Melbourne is a nice and varied city that has a lot to offer. We visited the centre of Melbourne on Anzac day, an important day in Australia, when ex-servicemen march through the city to remember the various wars in which Australia participated. We also went up the Rialto towers which offer a nice view on the town.
From Melbourne we went to Phillip Island for one day, where we visited a koalas reserve. They’re very cute and fluffy but they spend most of their time sleeping so they barely seem real. We also had the chance to see a few wallabies. It’s just fun to see how they move. At sunset we went to see the Penguin parade when the little penguins come out of the water to go into their nest. They’re tiny but really cute. There are stands like on a show so you can see them pretty well but the penguins are in their natural environment.
